Living environment and living standard of the modern day children and adolescents have been changing rapidly during previous decades. There is no doubts that in Nigeria this change has affected the childhood of children in many ways. Today’syouths living environment differ in many ways from the one in which their parents lived. The family life, and especially how we our share time during the day, has changed. New inventions in the field of media have brought us information about the everyday life in the world. In this article we would see how these changes have been affecting the life of the youth and also creating awareness on the big role electronic media plays in young people’s civilization.
Emotional trauma evolved as the aftermath of hurtful memories, pressure of missing out, pressure of succeeding, desire to good relationships and many others are the modern life emotional challenges affecting the society which the youths happens to be more than 70% of the victims. The only thing we learned in the society today is, how to avoid them with a basic ideology of “not facing the music” through drug use, screen time and many other ways of ignoring our responsibilities, choosing our minds over matters. That way negativism flows in the society with a sole purpose of ignoring our sorrows.
When I was a kid, I used to pray for the day I would be a youth. All the freedom and fun were my visions, thoughts for the mental pressures of grownup responsibilities never anticipated my mind. Setbacks became an icon of failure as I learned they are affirmative support for better challenge. Young people are a portion of the population and 100% of the future, it is an abstract perspective we all believe our purpose in life belongs to, a state of active curiosity usually makes us pull out desires from certain predictions we make, but in a world where inactiveness is born through the desire of achieving ease in life concepts, we forget about the hard work we need to inject, whereby depending confidently on lower chances. And that advantage we considered as a result of the chance is usually no way to be found because no human is hardwired to be lucky all time.
Humans are social creatures; communication is the foundation of our culture. It’s a way we all connect. Mobile phones and internet made a huge contribution to the 21st century towards bringing the world together by making it easy to interact with people of thousand miles virtually away in seconds. The benefits of having the world on our palm makes the young generation get anything they wanted without much efforts inflicting a self-destructive behavior of believing they are who they choose to remember. A disease of phone addiction which comes at a cost of our responsibilities is burn that way and most times we seemed detached to the notion of consequences for the actions.
